AUTHOR'S FOREWORD

The articles which go to make up thislittle book were written fornewspaper publication immediatelyfollowing the journey over the battlefields, inFrance in March, 1919, which I had beenenabled to make, through the courtesy andkindness of the Canadian CorpsCommander. They were published in April, 1919,in the Manitoba Free Press, Winnipeg; andare now republished at the request of manyfriends who have asked that they be madeavailable in more permanent form.

Though the articles reveal their journalisticorigin alike in their form and in acertain evanescent timeliness, alreadypartly out of date, it has not been consideredadvisable, under the circumstances, to re-castthem into more permanent form. They arere-published as written save for some slighttextual corrections.
